In a groundbreaking move, Colorado has taken a significant step towards safeguarding the rights of its public employees with the recently enacted “Protections for Public Workers Act.” This legislation marks a turning point in extending essential rights to workers across various sectors, including hospitals, universities, public schools, and other quasi-governmental entities. This article dives into the core provisions of the Act, its resemblances to the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) Sections 7 and 8, and the profound impact it holds for workers and unions.

While we had several great wins with new contract language and wage schedules, the district fought many of the transformative changes we had advocated for, including vital issues such as livable wages, adequate staffing, improved health benefits, and an end to outsourcing. While we feel the weight of this disappointment, it only fuels our resolve to fight harder for the rights and demands that remain unmet.

Here in Jeffco Public Schools, workers have been speaking up and organizing for better learning conditions for our students, for fiscal responsibility, and for quality, healthy food in our cafeterias.
