We met for the first bargaining session of 2020 today, February 13th, and discussed our proposals. Our next session will be March 11th at 4pm-8pm at the Ed Center. A group of bus drivers from across Jefferson County, who were joined in the room by JESPA members from many professions, spoke with the school board about the education funding crisis and how it is affecting Education Support Professionals and our students. Monte Hollander spoke for the group. An excerpt of his speech is below:
Paraeducators, parents, and teachers attended the Jeffco Board of Education meeting last night to speak about the problems in Jeffco’s Center programs for students with special needs, particularly Jeffco’s staffing guidelines, high student to para ratios, and the many unfilled positions for SPED paraeducators as a result of low pay.. Over November and December, we surveyed Education Support Professionals about SPED conditions. Then, paraeducators, teachers, and parents came together to discuss SPED learning and working conditions.
